Movie Review: Shazam
I watched this recently in preparation for Black Adam and I have to say the latter, while not great, was far better. Shazam is just bland. I try to give it somewhat of a pass since it is meant to be more of a comedy and/or kids’ movie, but even with fairly low standards this film was just boring. The best I can say is that the child actors were not terrible. Billy is believable enough as an orphan full of bravado desperate to find his real parents. The end of that particular subplot had some genuine pathos at least. There is little else to compliment here. The corny superhero fights and special effects felt pedestrian. The villain was completely forgettable and most of the jokes aren’t funny. It’s all been done before and done better in DC, MCU, and elsewhere. Eminently skippable.
